A delicious blend offering the soft, blackberry voluptuousness of the Merlot in harmony with the characteristic cherry blossom and ripe cherry pie character of Corvina. A fresh and well-balanced wine.
These elegantly presented wines are made by Matt Thomson at Cantina di Monteforte from fruit which is declassified from Soave Classico status and offer superb quality at this price. Verona’s ‘Ponte Pietra’ (stone bridge) dates back to Roman times, although vines have been planted on the hills outside of Verona for much longer than this bridge has spanned the Adige River.
The co-op is situated in the eastern part of Soave Classico and Soave. They have 1,200 hectares in total, part in Soave Classico and part outside the Classico zone, with some of the best vineyards in Soave Classico. Sixty per cent of their vineyards are on the hills, facing south and southeast, which gives wines that are riper and fuller than most others produced in Soave. The co-op has 600 members and harvests about 20,000 tonnes of grapes a year.
