The Liberator is the private label of English MW, Richard Kelley. He ‘liberates’ from the cellars of good estates any wine that he can nose out which has not yet found a home – and to which he thinks he can create a new market. Richard is a great taster and has all the right contacts – hence the success.
This one is down in conjunction with the infamous Andre Van Rensburg of Vergelegen. A great winemaker with a reputation for very strong opinions and colourful language. Richard, of course, knows how to charm the beast
Cinsault-Cabernet was a common blend in the bad old days. Then it used to produce rustic, tarry reds of little distinction. Cinsault is now right back in fashion – if the yields are kept low the results are spectacular: gentle but aromatic and elegant, exactly the qualities that most modern red winemakers are searching for.
